Man arrested after altercation at courthouse

By Nevin Farrell

This was the moment a man was arrested outside a Co Antrim courthouse yesterday on suspicion of disorderly behaviour, assault on police and resisting officers.

It is understood there had earlier been disruption inside Ballymena Courthouse where the main weekly sitting of the town's magistrates court was taking place.

The 29-year-old man was arrested at Albert Place near the court's entrance.

An eyewitness said: "There were a few incidents during the day when raised voices could be heard coming from the public waiting room outside the courtroom and court security staff and police officers had to leave the courtroom to attend to it.

"Around 1pm a man was shouting outside the gates of the court and more police were called to the scene."

A PSNI spokesman confirmed a man aged 29 was arrested.
