A man aged 40 has been arrested after a home was smashed up by a masked gang in Dundonald.

The PSNI received a report of the aggravated burglary in Craignish Crescent on Saturday at around 9pm.

PSNI Detective Sergeant Crothers said: "It's reported that hammers were used to smash windows and items of furniture.

"A woman was home at the time and, while physically uninjured, has been left badly shaken by the ordeal.

"We have subsequently arrested a man on suspicion of aggravated burglary with intent to commit unlawful damage."

The suspect was later released on bail pending further enquiries.

The officer added: "Our investigation is continuing and we are appealing to anyone with information, or who noticed any suspicious activity in the area, to contact us on 101, quoting reference number 2001 of 10/08/19."

Alternatively, information can be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.
