Man arrested after west Belfast arms find

A 52-year-old man has been arrested after police searches in west Belfast uncovered guns, ammunition and suspected pipe bomb parts.

Officers found the munitions at a house on Forest Street on Saturday night.

Bomb disposal officers were called in to assist with examining a number of items, including suspected pipe bomb parts.

All items have now been removed for further examination.

As a precaution a number of residents were asked to leave their homes for a short period overnight and Cavendish Street Hall was made available for them.

The arrested man remains in custody at this time assisting police with their enquiries.
