A man arrested after a handbag snatcher struck twice in the Shore Road area of north Belfast on Sunday has been released.

Police said a 35-year-old man had been detained on suspicion of two counts of robbery.

In the first incident, reported at 11.15am, a man snatched a handbag from a woman waiting at a bus stop. A member of the public gave chase and recovered the handbag and its contents.

Half an hour later, further along the Shore Road near Mount Vernon, another woman waiting at a bus stop had her bag snatched. This time the man made off on foot with the bag into Mount Vernon estate.

Both women were left badly shaken.

On Wednesday morning, the man was released on police bail pending further investigation.
