A man was arrested in Londonderry as police investigate an unregistered lottery controlled by the Irish Republican Prisoners Welfare Association.

The 45-year-old male was arrested by detectives from the PSNI’s Terrorism Investigation Unit following a search of a property in the Springtown area on Thursday.

The Irish Republican Prisoners Welfare Association supports those who have been convicted of terrorist offences committed on behalf of the New IRA.

Head of the Terrorism Investigation Unit Detective Superintendent Richard Campbell, said the man was arrested on suspicion of offences committed under Gaming and Lotteries legislation and possession of Class B controlled drugs.

A number of items were also seized during the search and arrest operation.

The male has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
