Man arrested in connection with paramilitary-style shooting in Belfast released unconditionally

A 40-year-old arrested after a paramilitary-style attack in west Belfast on Saturday has been released unconditionally.

The victim, who is in his 30s, was shot in both legs in an alleyway close to the Westrock Gardens/Springhill Drive area of the city at around 10.30pm on Saturday.

He was taken to hospital for treatment.

Detective Inspector Paul Wright said the man's injuries may be life-changing.

"This was a brutal attack and yet another example of how criminal groups seek to control communities through fear and violence," he said.
