Man arrested in Enniskillen over a cannabis seizure

A 43-year-old man has been arrested following the seizure of herbal cannabis worth an estimated £75,000.

The arrest was made in the Enniskillen area.

The drugs were found in a car stopped by police on the Belfast Road, Tamlaght at around 3pm on Wednesday afternoon.

Detective Inspector Tom McClure from Reactive and Organised Crime Branch said the arrest came during a wider investigation into organised crime gangs.

"We stopped this vehicle as part of a wider investigation into the activities of what we believe is an organised crime gang operating in Northern Ireland," he said.

"The cannabis, which we estimate to have a street value of approx. £76,000 was located inside the car along with a small quantity of class A drugs believed to be cocaine."

Det Insp McClure revealed that a house on Claremount Street in Belfast has also now been searched and a number of items have been seized for examination.

"We will continue to carry out proactive search and arrest operations like this one as part of our ongoing efforts to dismantle the infrastructure of those organised crime gangs who try to ply their evil drugs trade in Northern Ireland," he said.

"All information from the public is helpful and anyone who believes they may have information about the sale or supply of illegal drugs can contact police on 101 or call the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111."
