Man arrested over church burglaries

By Staff Reporter

A 48-year-old man has been arrested in Fivemiletown in Co Tyrone on suspicion of burglary offences carried out in the town earlier this week.

Break-ins were reported at Clogher Valley Free Presbyterian Church and St Mary's chapel.

Audio visual equipment and cash were stolen in the raids, which are believed to have taken place overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday.

A silver Peugeot car believed to have been used during the burglaries was recovered at Ballagh Road.

The burglaries sparked revulsion in the local area.

As a result of the disruption and police operations in the building, Clogher Valley Independent Christian School had to cancel its annual last day of school Christmas party, causing deep disappointment to the 22 pupils.

DUP leader Arlene Foster said that she plans to discuss the "rising level of burglaries" in Co Tyrone with the PSNI.
