Man assaulted in home by men armed with knives during daytime burglary

Police are investigating after a man in Newtownards was assaulted in his own home.

It happened during an armed burglary in the town on Thursday afternoon.

Detective Sergeant Bell said: “Shortly before 1.30pm, it was reported that a man was assaulted in his home in the Lisbane Drive area of the town by two other men armed with knives. The pair then left the property with a sum of cash.

“A 26-year-old received minor injuries and was left shaken by the incident.

“Two men, aged 21 and 22, were arrested a short time later in Newtownards town centre on suspicion of aggravated burglary. They are currently in custody, helping police with their enquiries.

“Detectives are appealing to anyone who witnessed this incident or anyone who has information that could assist with the investigation to contact us on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 620 of 07/12/17.

“Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
