Man attacked in his home with iron bars in Co Antrim

A man has been assaulted in his home by men with iron bars in Glenavy.

The aggravated burglary happened in the Ballyvannon Road area of Glenavy in the early hours of Tuesday October 6.

Just after 4am, police received a report that a man had been assaulted in his home by men with iron bars.

He has been taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.

Police said the investigation is currently being linked with the discovery of a burnt out car in the Lurgan Road area of Glenavy shortly afterwards.

The car was a black Renault Clio which had earlier been stolen from a house in the Dunmurry area.

Detective Constable Maxwell said: "I would ask anyone with any information about this incident to contact detectives in Lisburn Police Station on the non emergency number 101.

"Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111."
