Man attacked with hammer and nail-studded pole in Newtownards

A man was beaten with a hammer and a nail-studded pole during an aggravated burglary in Newtownards.

The attack happened just after 11.15pm on Sunday at a house in the Ravara Close area of the town.

Police said four masked men entered the house and locked three teenage girls in room while they assaulted a male occupant with a hammer and a nail-studded pole.

The man sustained a large cut to the top of his head and puncture wounds to his arms and was taken to hospital for treatment.

PSNI Detective Constable Rea said: “All have been left badly shocked and we are appealing to anyone with information, or who noticed any suspicious activity or vehicles in the area around that time, to contact us on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 1650 of 05/05/19.”
