A man in his 30s has been taken to hospital after he was attacked by two men armed with a hammer in east Belfast.

The assault took place in the Lord Street area shortly before noon on Friday.

Detective Sergeant McCartan said: “It was reported that a man in his 30s was assaulted by two men at the junction with the Beersbridge Road with a hammer. He was taken to hospital for injuries to his head and jaw following the incident.

“A 29 year old man was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent, possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence and other offences. He is currently in police custody at this time.

“Enquiries are continuing and we would appeal to anyone with any information in relation to this matter to contact detectives on 101, quoting reference number 674 01/07/22. You can also submit a report online using our non-emergency reporting form.”
