Man bailed on riot charges

A 21-year-old north Belfast man arrested yesterday close to the Ardoyne shop fronts has been released on bail - but ordered to stay away from any protests or disorder.

James Osborne, from Linen Mill in the city's Flax Street, was arrested around 9.15am yesterday for disorderly behaviour and assaulting police on the Crumlin Road.

Hours after his arrest, Osbourne appeared in the dock of Belfast Magistrates Court, where he spoke once to confirm he understood the two charges levelled against him.

A police constable told the court she was familiar with the case and could connect Osborne to the two charges that are levelled against him.

The case will be listed before the same court on July 27.
