Man bailed over attack at house party

By Brett Campbell

The stabbing of a man at a Donaghadee house party on Saturday morning has provoked horror in the community.

The victim, aged in his 30s, remains stable in hospital after being stabbed in the back and chest at a flat on Cannyreagh Road shortly after 12am.

A 30-year-old suspect, who was pursued by a number of people who were at the party, was arrested a short distance from the property on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon. He was released on police bail yesterday afternoon pending further enquiries.

Local UUP councillor David Chambers said the "quiet community" is horrified by the incident. "We don't need or condone this type of behaviour.

"My thoughts are obviously with the victim and I would encourage witnesses to contact the police," he said.

Deputy Mayor of Ards and North Down, Bill Keery, said he "utterly condemns" the attack.
