Man bailed over police car blaze

A man charged with setting fire to a police car containing four police officers outside his home at Feeney in Co Londonderry has been returned for trial to the Crown Court in the city.

James McLaughlin (30), from Glenshane Road, was charged with destroying the car by arson last September 8 at the city's Magistrates Court yesterday .

He's further charged with attempting to destroy by fire a second police car, threatening to kill two police officers and possessing a hurling stick with intent to assault police officers.

The defendant, who made no reply to the charges, was released on bail until he appears before the Crown Court for his arraignment on April 25.
