Man 'bit off girlfriend's nose'

A man bit part of his partner's nose off following an all-day drinking session, the High Court has heard.

The victim now faces reconstruction surgery because doctors were unable to reattach the tip, prosecutors said.

Her boyfriend of five years, Martin Reid (40), of no fixed address, is alleged to have told police he would bite the woman's head off if he ever saw her again.

He has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent over the alleged attack in Dunmurry, near Belfast, on April 11.

Reid is also accused of assault on a police officer and a civilian member of staff, along with criminal damage to a cell.

Reid was granted bail but banned from contacting the victim or taking any alcohol.

Crown counsel Fiona O'Kane said police found the woman with a large part of her nose bitten off after being called out to a house in the Seymour Hill area.

She confirmed that the missing piece was located, but could not be stitched back on.
