Man caged for killing neighbour
A man who stabbed a neighbour 11 times because he “could not let him live” has been jailed for life and told he will spend at least 10 years in prison.
Jailing 38-year-old Troy McAuley at Antrim Crown Court, sitting in Belfast, Mr Justice McLaughlin accepted that he suffered from a mental disorder which diminished his criminal responsibility but not to a degree that would afford him a legal defence from murder.
McAuley, from Herbert Avenue in Larne, pleaded guilty to the murder of Kenneth Raymond Nicholl on November 2, 2008. The judge accepted that the late plea had been because medical investigations were at the time ongoing.
