Man charged after attack outside Tyrone bar leaves father of six critically ill

A 25-year-old man is due to appear in court this morning charged with grievous bodily harm after an assault outside a bar in Killyclogher near Omagh left a father of six critically ill in hospital.

The 38-year-old was attacked at around 1.40am yesterday morning.

It is believed he suffered head injuries and a collpapsed lung.

Doctors yesterday carried out emergency surgery on the victim at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast. He remains in critical condition.

A 27-year-old woman who was also arrested in connection with the assault was released on bail pending further inquiries.

Sinn Fein councillor Declan McAleer said: "The victim of this incident is a young father who lives locally. I just hope that he can make a complete recovery and my thoughts and prayers are with him and his family at this difficult time."

Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
