Man charged after security alert

A 28-year-old man has been charged with offences related to dissident republican terrorist activity.

The accused was arrested by officers in north Belfast on Thursday night.

They subsequently recovered four timer power units, of similar type to those used in past explosive attacks.

The north Belfast man will appear in court in Belfast on Saturday.

He was on foot in Dawson Street near the Antrim Road when he was detained.

He has been charged with possession of articles likely to be of use to terrorists and preparing for an act of terrorism.

The Antrim Road was sealed off for a period on Thursday night as the timer devices were examined.
