Man charged over 2015 road death of mother of two

By Paul Higgins

A man has been accused of killing a woman two-and-a-half years ago.

Although he did not attend Dungannon Magistrates Court, 29-year-old Jonathan William Ferguson, from Elm Park in Moneymore, was accused of the manslaughter of Marie Bernadette McNicholl on April 12, 2015.

The mother-of-two, who was in her 50s, had been returning home from a night out with friends when the car she was travelling in struck a tree near Cookstown at approximately 2.30am.

None of the alleged facts surrounding the charge were revealed in court yesterday and the scheduled preliminary enquiry, the legal step necessary to refer a case to the higher Crown Court, was adjourned to next Friday, November 24.

Known to friends and family as Bernie, she was one of 12 siblings from Derrylaughan, on the shores of Lough Neagh in Co Tyrone.
