Man charged over Carrick weapons and ammo find

Detectives from Reactive and Organised Crime Branch, investigating ongoing paramilitary activity in the Carrickfergus area, have charged a 37-year-old man with possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life.

The charges follow the recovery of two loaded firearms following a search at Buskin Place in Carrickfergus on October 28.

The suspect is due to appear at Belfast Magistrates Court this morning.

Four other men were arrested in the Greenisland and Carrickfergus areas on Wednesday November 30 in relation to the same incident.

Three of the men were released pending a report to the PPS, and a man was released unconditionally.

Detective Inspector Whoriskey said: "Officers continue to be proactive in policing Castlemara estate and the wider Carrickfergus area

"I would appeal to anyone with information about criminal activity in the area to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
