Man charged with Anne O'Neill murder in Belfast

A 27-year-old man has been charged with the murder of Belfast woman Anne O'Neill.

Ms O'Neill (51) died after being attacked at a house on Ardmore Avenue, Finaghy on Saturday. She is thought to have died after suffering head injuries.

Neighbours reported hearing a woman's screams around the time of the attack.

Ms O'Neill was discovered in her back garden with head injuries. Emergency crews tried to resuscitate the mother-of-two but were unable to save her and she died at the scene.

Police were granted extra time to question a 27-year-old suspect.

On Tuesday night he was charged. He is set to appear in Belfast Magistrates' Court on Wednesday. As is usual procedure all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
