Man charged with Derry murder bid

A man is to appear in court on Wednesday charged with attempted murder following an incident in Londonderry.

The 48-year-old has also been charged with common assault, two counts of criminal damage, two counts of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and threats to kill.

He is expected to appear before Londonderry Magistrates' Court. As is normal procedure all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

The charges are in connection with an incident in the Glendara area of Derry/Londonderry on Tuesday morning.

Police closed part of the Foyle Road for a time to deal with the incident.
