Man critical but stable following attack by five people in Portrush

A man is in critical but stable condition in hospital after he was attacked by five people in the Dunluce Avenue area of Portrush in the early hours of this morning.

A police spokesman said that around 1.50am an altercation took place near a takeaway restaurant in the town, resulting in a window being shattered.

It is understood the 31-year-old man was assaulted by three men and two women.

He was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries.

His condition is described as "critical but stable".

Police are appealing for information.

Detective constable John Boyd said: "I would appeal to anyone who knows anything about this incident to contact CID at Coleraine Police Station on the non emergency number 101.

"Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111."
