Man dies after being knocked down by bin lorry in Northern Ireland town

A man in his 60s has died after being hit by a bin lorry in a Co Antrim town.

The incident happened in Broughshane on Tuesday morning just after 9.20am when the lorry collided with a pedestrian.

Inspector Peter Duncan: "The road was closed for a number of hours following the collision but has since reopened."

"I would ask anyone who witnessed the collision or who has any information to contact 101 quoting reference number 264 16/01/18."

Police and the ambulance service were earlier in attendance at the scene.

Diversions were in place at the Knockan Road junction and Rathkeel Road junction, with the PSNI advising motorists to avoid the area.
