A man has died after he was involved in a collision involving a bus on the Antrim Road in north Belfast yesterday.

SDLP MLA Nichola Mallon extended her condolences to the man's friends and family.

"My thoughts go out to this man's family and friends at this difficult time, and to all those involved in this incident," she said.

Police closed the Antrim Road in both directions for much of the morning and into the early afternoon.

Translink confirmed that a Metro bus had been involved in a serious incident at Gray's Lane on the Antrim Road at 6.25am.

"We are investigating and are assisting the PSNI with their inquiries," a spokesperson for the company said.

The death brings to 52 the number of people killed on Northern Ireland's roads so far this year -14 of them pedestrians.
