Man dies in Co Armagh after car crashes into field

By Lesley Houston

A man has died in Co Armagh following a single-vehicle accident.

The man, aged in his 60s, had been travelling along Tannyoky Road last night when it is understood his vehicle left the road and crashed in a field.

Motorists were diverted from the crash scene between Clare Road and Blacker Road following the accident, which happened a short time before 7pm.

Councillor Jim Speers, who uses the road regularly, described the latest road death as an "absolute tragedy".

The UUP man last night said the victim was a "well-known local businessman". He declined to name the man, but said he was a "great character."

Local Assembly Member Danny Kennedy said: "I wish to express my shock at yet another tragic accident on our roads."

The Tannyoky Road was reopened to traffic at 4.30am this morning.
