Man due in court over ear bite assault in Omagh

A man is to appear in court today after being accused of biting another man's ear off in Co Tyrone at the weekend.

The 33-year-old suspect has been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent following the serious assault which happened in the Bridge Street area of Omagh on Saturday.

The incident, which involved a 48-year-old victim, was reported at around 8pm.

The PSNI said: "Some form of altercation took place in the Bridge Street area of the town which ended with a 48-year-old male having part of his ear bitten off."

The suspect is due to appear before Omagh Magistrates Court today.

Sergeant Johnny Hamill of Omagh Neighbourhood Policing Team extended his thanks to staff and customers of the Embankment Bar on Old Market Place where the victim was given first aid.

Police have appealed for witnesses to contact them on 101.
