Man found dead after fire in flat

A man has died in a fire in Co Antrim.

The body of the 44-year-old was discovered in the hallway of a first-floor flat in the centre of Ballycastle, the fire service said.

A blaze in the living room had burned itself out by the time emergency crews arrived.

A fire service spokeswoman said: "Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the flat and sadly found a male fatality in the hallway of the flat."

The call to premises in the Diamond area was received shortly before 2pm on Friday.

Three fire appliances attended.

The incident was dealt with within half an hour and an investigation is now under way.

A PSNI spokeswoman said: "A full examination will take place to determine the cause of the fire."
