By Amanda Ferguson

A man is being held by police and a gun has been seized following a burglary in Templepatrick.

PSNI officers were questioning a 35-year-old detained shortly after the incident at around 5.20pm on Tuesday.

A member of the public reported a legally-held shotgun had been taken from the Co Antrim property.

Subsequently officers received a second call from another person which led to an arrest.

Detective Sergeant John McKendry of Newtownabbey CID said: "A second call from a member of the public alerted officers that a quad-type motorised vehicle with a trailer attached had made off from the area prior to their arrival and had been seen by a neighbour of the burglary victim.

"A short time later, a man was detained and after a search of the area, a shotgun was found in a river and a number of shotgun cartridges were discovered nearby. The man was then taken into custody for questioning."
