Man held after woman raped in east Belfast

A man is being held by police after a woman in her 40s was raped in east Belfast.

The attack happened in the early hours of Saturday, June 15.

Police are asking for anyone who was in the area around the Great Eastern Bar, Lower Newtownards Road between 11.00pm on Friday, 14 June and 3.00am on Saturday 15 June who may have spotted the victim.

The woman is described as having shoulder length dark hair, wearing a long black skirt and black top.

They are appealing for anyone who may have seen her to get in contact on 0845 600 8000.

A 35-year-old man has been remanded into custody over the incident.
