Man held in probe into 'bogus policeman'

By Staff Reporter

A man has been arrested on suspicion of impersonating a police officer after a driver was pulled over by another a man in a car behind him.

The 41-year-old man was arrested after a driver travelling on Longstone Street in Lisburn late on Wednesday night was signalled to stop.

The driver believed it was a police vehicle and pulled over, and the 'police' car pulled in behind. However, it sped off a few seconds later.

A vehicle matching the description was stopped by police early yesterday morning on the Mullaghcartan Road.

The driver was subsequently arrested on suspicion of impersonating a PSNI officer and obstructing police.

He was interviewed and released on police bail pending further inquiries, a PSNI spokesman said. Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have experienced a similar incident in the area to contact them at Lisburn Police Station by calling 101.
