A man has been remanded in custody charged with the murder of a Northern Ireland-born widower who was stabbed to death in England.

Jeff Burrows (40), who grew up in Dungannon, was killed at his flat in the Norfolk Square of Brighton on Sunday night.

Yesterday Joel Elliott appeared before the city’s magistrates court charged with murder.

The 22-year-old, from North Road in Brighton, was remanded in custody to appear before Lewes Crown Court on Tuesday.

Elliott, who spoke with a Liverpool accent, was arrested by Sussex Police on Wednesday and charged the following day.

A second man arrested on suspicion of murder was released on bail until May 29.
