Man held over murder of north Belfast man Basil McAfee

A 54-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of north Belfast man Basil McAfee shortly before Christmas.

The suspect was arrested in the east Belfast area on Monday morning and remains in police custody for questioning.

He was held over the killing of Basil McAfee (50), who was found by his mother at his home in Henderson Avenue off the Cavehill Road on Friday, December 20.

He had been stabbed several times.

Earlier this month police released CCTV images showing the last moments of Mr McAfee before his death.

Detectives released images of the last sighting of him alive, at an off-licence on the Cavehill Road.

At the time, PSNI Detective Chief Inspector John McVea said: "Basil suffered a violent death. I believe he was beaten about the head with a sharp implement and then stabbed."
