Man hit by car he was allegedly trying to hijack in Belfast

A man has been run over by a car he was allegedly trying to hijack in Belfast city centre.

Police said at around 8.30pm on Monday night a 23-year-old man armed with an imitation firearm stepped in front of a car on North Street, Belfast in an apparent attempt to hijack it.

He was struck by the vehicle.

He was arrested on suspicion of attempted hijacking, possession of a firearm in suspicious circumstances and disorderly behaviour and detained at scene.

The man was then taken to hospital for treatment for a suspected broken leg.

Detective Inspector Jenna Fitzpatrick is appealing to anyone with any information regarding this incident to contact Musgrave CID on the non-emergency number 101.
