Man hospitalised after 'savage' break-in and bat attack in Armagh

Police have described a burglary at a house in Co Armagh where a man was hospitalised as a "savage attack".

The incident happened in the Carrive Road area of Silverbridge on Wednesday October 25.

At around 9.45pm three masked men entered the property and demanded money.

The two women and the man present in the home were all tied up.

Before leaving the property empty-handed, the man was beaten with a wooden bat and sustained injuries he required hospital treatment for.

Speaking following the attack, Detective Constable McCartan said: "The man’s injuries are not believed to be life changing at this time.

"While the two females were not physically injured, they have been left shaken by the ordeal.

"This was a savage attack on this man, and a frightening ordeal for the three occupants of the house."

The PSNI has appealed for anyone who may have been in the Carrive Road area of Silverbridge on Wednesday night who noticed any suspicious activity, or anyone with information about the incident, to contact detectives in Ardmore on the non-emergency number 101, quoting the reference 277 with the date 26/10/2017.

Alternatively the public can contact independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
