Man hospitalised after 'savage' paramilitary-style attack in Ballymoney

A man has been hospitalised after a paramilitary-style attack at a property in Ballymoney.

Police received a report shortly after 8.30pm on Saturday night that a 40-year-old man had been attacked at a house in the Alexdandra Avenue area of Town Parks.

Three masked men entered the home and attacked the occupant with weapons that are described as batons.

The injured man was taken to hospital for treatment on injuries to his face, hand, legs and ribs.

It is the second paramilitary-style attack in 24-hour period in Co Antrim, with a man hospitalised after a paramilitary-style shooting in Newtownabbey on Friday.

Speaking about the incident, Detective Constable Brennan said: "This was a savage attack and is another example of the way in which criminal groups seek to control communities through fear and violence.

"I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or anyone who has information which may assist police enquiries, to contact Criminal Investigation Branch detectives in Coleraine on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 1425 28/10/17.

"Alternatively, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111."
