Man in hospital after serious road crash on Ards Peninsula

By Rebecca Black

A man has been rushed to hospital following a serious road crash on the Ards Peninsula in Co Down.

The PSNI said one vehicle was involved in the collision, which a spokeswoman described as serious.

The incident took place on the Springvale Road in Ballywalter yesterday, close to two popular caravan parks in the area.

The man was taken to the Ulster Hospital in Dundonald, where last night a spokeswoman was unable to give an update on his condition.

Strangford MP Jim Shannon said: "Mine and everyone in the area's thoughts are with the man taken to hospital, and his family and friends.

The cause of the accident is not yet known with investigations under way. I hope that the man is able to make a full recovery."

Meanwhile, a young boy was left injured after being hit by a vehicle in east Belfast. The incident happened at around 11.45am yesterday on the Upper Newtownards Road.

The child is understood to be 10 years old. Last night, a spokeswoman for the Royal Victoria Hospital said his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
