Man in hospital with severe head injury after being hit with a bottle during Belfast assault

A man has sustained a severe head injury after being struck with a bottle during an assault at a house in Belfast during the early hours of Sunday morning.

The incident happened at a house in the St Aubyn Street area of north Belfast.

At around 4.30am police were called to the scene after three men pushed their way past the male occupant and his friend into the property.

The occupant sustained a severe injury to the side of his head after being struck with a bottle. He is currently in hospital receiving treatment.

His male friend was punched and, although uninjured, was also left badly shaken.

A mobile phone was stolen during the incident.

Detective Sergeant Conlan said: "It is believed the suspects are aged between early to mid-twenties.  One is described as wearing a white tracksuit jacket with blue stripes on the sleeves and dark tracksuit bottoms.

“We are appealing  to anyone with information, or who noticed any suspicious activity in the area around that time, to contact detectives on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 510 of 02/06/19.”
