Man in 'SS RUC' rant at officers to be sentenced

A man who shouted "SS RUC" at officers will be sentenced on Monday.

Michael McGlinchey (26), of Ballymagowan Avenue, appeared at Derry Magistrates Court charged with driving offences and with disorderly behaviour.

On March 21 police were mounting a checkpoint when he drove straight at an officer who had to jump away. McGlinchey was identified and admitted having no licence or insurance, but denied driving at the officer, claiming he didn't see him. The court was also told that on July 18 police were in Creggan when McGlinchey shouted "SS RUC", refused to give his details and then told police to "get the f*** out you black b******* ".

McGlinchey is due for sentencing on Monday on another charge, so the judge deferred sentencing in this case until then, but did warn McGlinchey he faced jail.
