A man has suffered serious injuries after being assaulted by up to four men in west Belfast, the PSNI have revealed.

The incident, which occurred in the Blacks Road/Ladybrook area, was reported to police at around 3.30am on Sunday.

The PSNI said yesterday they believe the assault took place hours earlier, sometime between midnight and 3am and that it had involved multiple male attackers.

The victim, who is in his 40s, was subsequently taken to hospital, a police spokesman confirmed.

Detective Sergeant Laverty yesterday appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward - including any drivers with dash cams who were in the area at the time of the attack.

He said: "Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at Musgrave Station on 101, quoting reference number 434 26/05/19."
