A man is recovering in hospital after he was stabbed in the hand by an armed gang.

The assault happened in the Hannahglen Heights area of west Belfast at around 2.30pm when four masked men got out of a black Mercedes van.

The PSNI said one was believed to be armed with a knife and another was thought to have been brandishing a suspected firearm.

"The injured man received wounds to his hands which required hospital treatment," said a spokesman.

The men made off in the van towards the Glen Road.
