A man who had sex with a schoolgirl has been jailed for 18 months and ordered to remain on licence for a further three years.
Belfast Crown Court heard that on the very last day of a probation order, 26-year-old Anthony Kelly was drinking with his girlfriend outside the derelict Bangor Academy school when he met the 14-year-old on March 23 last year.
The court heard that Kelly invited the girl into the school where he had sex with her while his girlfriend stood outside.
However she was worried the pair had been inside for so long that she flagged down a passing police car and they arrested Kelly.
The prosecuting lawyer revealed that on the day in question, Kelly had just finished a two-year probation order after he was jailed for an attack on his ex-partner.
After his arrest Kelly, from West Link in Holywood, denied having sex with the girl but later pleaded guilty to a charge of having sexual activity with a child.
In handing down the sentence, Judge Patricia Smyth said it was clear from the papers the teenager had consented to sex but that reports indicted to her that Kelly was a danger to the public.
She also ordered Kelly to remain on the sex offenders’ register for life.
