Man killed and three injured in car smash

A 27-year-old man has died and three others were seriously injured after a road crash in Co Armagh.

The smash involving two vehicles happened on the Derrytrasna Road close to the Derryadd Orange hall in Lurgan at about 6.15pm yesterday.

A 12-year-old boy and two men aged 18 and 26 were taken to Craigavon Hospital for treatment last night. Their injuries have been described as "serious" but not life-threatening.

It is understood the accident happened on a straight stretch of road.

SDLP MLA Dolores Kelly is among those to have expressed sympathies: "There will obviously be a very sad home where a young man has lost his life in a tragic accident and our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time," she said.

A spokeswoman for the PSNI has appealed for any witnesses to the accident between the blue Vauxhall Vivaro van and red Peugeot 306 to come forward.

Anyone with information should contact police on 0845 600 8000.
