Man killed and two other people injured in traffic accident

A man in his 40s has died after a road accident in Co Londonderry.

The two-vehicle crash, involving a silver Ford Ka and a grey Peugeot 308, happened on the Clooney Road in Derry during the early hours of the morning.

A man and woman, both in their 50s, were taken to hospital for treatment to injuries but these are not believed to be life-threatening.

The Clooney Road has been closed to facilitate a detailed investigation of the scene and d iversions have been put in place.

The PSNI has appealed for any witnesses to contact Strand Road Police Station or the Collision Investigation Unit on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 70 of 04/09/16.

The dead man's family have requested privacy.
