A man killed in a road crash in Co Armagh has been described as a highly respected businessman.

The victim of Wednesday evening's crash on the Tannyoky Road in Poyntzpass has been named locally as George Fleming, a father-of-three from the area.

Mr Fleming died after the car he was driving crashed at around 6.45pm. It is understood Mr Fleming's car left the road and came to rest in a field.

The road was closed until 4.30am while police carried out an examination of the scene.

UUP councillor Jim Speers said: "This is a terrible tragedy, it is a terrible shock to lose a loved one in this way.

"George was a well-known businessman.

"He was a very jovial character, an interesting man who was good company. I had many a yarn with him over the years.

"It is an absolute tragedy for his family and our thoughts are very much with them at this time."

Police have appealed for information about the accident.
