Man killed 'while working underneath car' in Belfast incident

By Jonathan Bell

A man has died in an incident in south Belfast.

It happened in the Cadogan Park area of south Belfast on Monday afternoon at around 3.30pm.

It's understood the man was working underneath a car when it fell on top of him.

Police and the Ambulance Service were sent, however, the man died at the scene.

The PSNI said they are treating the incident as a "non-suspicious sudden death".

SDLP councillor for the area Donal Lyons said it was an "awful tragedy".

"My thoughts and prayers are with the man's family, loved ones and friends at this moment," he said.

"This is such a quite and settled road and all would know each other. This will send shock waves around the neighbourhood."

In a statement, the Ambulance Service added: "The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service attended an incident this afternoon in the Malone Road area of Belfast.

"The call was received at 15:28 and NIAS dispatched one Rapid Response Paramedic and one Emergency Ambulance crew to the incident.

"No one was transported from the scene."
