Man on trial on child sex charges

By George Jackson

A 14-year-old secondary school girl yesterday told a jury at Londonderrry Crown Court that she was sexually abused by a 39-year-old man over two years ago.

The girl's allegations were contained in a DVD interview with police officers which was played to the jurors on the opening day of the trial.

The defendant, who cannot be named in order to protect the girl's identity, denies two charges of committing acts of gross indecency on the girl and three further charges of indecently assaulting her in his home between January and March of 2008. The girl told the police that she went to the defendant's home to visit his girlfriend's daughter.

When she was alone in the house with the defendant she said he locked the doors before carrying out the sex assaults after showing her pornographic photographs on his computer.

The girl said when the defendant started to hug and kiss her she “struggled to get away but he gripped me” before the alleged sexual assaults took place.

At hearing.
