Man pointed knife at girl

Detectives in east Belfast are appealing for information after a man pointed a knife at a 13 year old girl during the attempted robbery of an Upper Newtownards Road newsagents.

The incident occurred at about 5.55pm on Monday, 22 November, when the man pointed the knife at the girl and a woman working in the shop and demanded money. He left after the woman refused. He is about 5ft 10in, stocky and was wearing blue jeans, a hoodie with broad blue and white horizontal stripes, a black hat, gloves and a scarf covering his face.

Alliance Councillor Judith Cochrane said: "I am shocked that This shop was targeted at rush hour on one of Belfast's busy commuter routes.

“This is the second time that this particular shop has been attacked this month and again raises concerns about the increase of knife crimes in the area,” she added.

Anyone with information can contact police on 0845 600 8000 or the Crimestoppers charity anonymously, 0800 555 111.
