Man quizzed over MLA 'death threat'

Police have questioned a man after a Sinn Fein MLA claimed he had received a death threat.

The suspect was detained on suspicion of incitement to hatred or arousing fear following comments made on Facebook about Daithi McKay.

Mr McKay, North Antrim Assembly member, alleges that a page on Facebook said he needed a bullet. He lodged a complaint with police and the remarks are no longer publicly available.

A PSNI spokeswoman said: "Police have arrested a 20-year-old man this morning in relation to comments made on a social media site.

"He was arrested on suspicion of incitement to hatred/arousing fear contrary to the Public Order (NI) Order 1987 and two offences of improper use of telecommunications contrary to the Communications Act 2003.

"The individual has been interviewed and released on bail pending further inquiries."
